AFUE is an acronym for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. It is a rating assigned by AHRI (Air conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute) to gas burning heating systems to help you make an informed decision when you buy heating equipment.
Basically it is a percentage of WHAT YOU GET for WHAT YOU PAY. All gas burning appliances have some waste. Most heating equipment that was built prior to 1985 was never even tested by AHRI, but it is commonly accepted to be around 55 AFUE or in other words 55% efficient and therefore 45% waste. In other words, for every $100.00 of gas you buy $45.00 is going up the Chimney
Most systems that are manufactured today range from 78 to 95 AFUE, or 78% to 95% efficient. A UNIT THAT HAS A 95 AFUE would be 73% more efficient than a unit with an AFUE of 55 and would use 42% less fuel to accomplish the same job.
If you would like to know EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU call us today at 1-800-886-2188. We will have one of our ENERGY CONSULTANTS to come to your home or business. They will not charge you anything, nor will you be obligated to us in any way.
They will measure your home, windows and insulation. They will enter this and many other important factors into our computer system. Our computer will then calculate your expected future energy bills with several different options including the option of simply doing nothing. You can then compare these savings figures to the cost to upgrade, and make a wise decision.
