Most people in our area heat with Natural gas or Propane. These gases were
formed thousands of years ago over long periods of time. When we burn
them to get the heat from them we release Carbon Dioxide into the
atmosphere. Geothermal systems use Electricity to heat instead of Gas.
Now you might say, "but most of our electricity here is made by burning fossil
fuels anyway." This is true. Where the atmospheric savings comes in is that
when we get the electricity to our place, we do not burn it. We put it to work
for us extracting the heat we have been saving in our DIRT BANK all summer.
This allows us to heat with a 450% lower carbon footprint.
Because Geothermal technology is 2-4 times more energy efficient than
conventional air conditioning systems we lower our carbon footprint there also.
Because the Geothermal system heats our water for free in the summer and
much more efficiently in the winter, we are burning up 50% less gas to heat
water, helping the environment a third way.
Oh, did I forget to mention that the Geo system uses a DC blower motor
technology that moves air for about half the energy of conventional AC
motors? Maybe we can actually leave our kids with a clean atmosphere
and some energy they could use. If only we could get our politicians be this
responsible and reduce the National Deficit and Debt.
