.   We talked on the previous page of the problem with homes being built too
tight.   Properly applied HRVs used in combination with good MERV
FILTRATION, & HUMIDIFICATION are, in our opinion,  the very best system
available for optimizing IAQ or Indoor Air Quality without wasting precious
energy.

.   While many pollutants can be removed with filtration, some simply cannot.  
By continually exhausting a specific amount of stale indoor air, and replacing
it with filtered and tempered outdoor air, we keep the indoors much cleaner
and healthier.  In addition to getting rid of the pollutants, we also bring in
FRESH OXYGEN.  

.   While we could simply do this with fans and filters, an HRV goes a step
further.  A simple exhaust fan, like the one in your bathroom wastes air that
you have paid money to heat or cool.  It must be replaced by air that is Zero
degrees on a cold winter day, or 100 degree air on a hot summer day.   An
HRV runs the air across a plate to plate heat exchanger before exhausting it.  
It then brings in fresh outdoor air, filters it, and transfers the heat energy from
or to the air you are exhausting.  

.   Very simply, an HRV allows you to keep your home or building fresh
without having to pay the large utility costs associated with Exhaust and Make
Up Air.
