. TANKLESS WATER HEATERS .
. We first became aware of the tank less water heater technology in the early 1980s.
As with all products we sell, we chose to test this concept before offering it to our
customers. Being the owner and the company's favorite guinea pig, we put one in my
home. At the time I had 4 children in the home and occasionally ran out of hot water.
. I found that this device had advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage
was, that, unless it was broken down, we never ran out of hot water. While one
disadvantage was that it took a little longer to get hot water each time, the most
significant disadvantage was that it was not nearly as reliable as a normal water heater.
. I am sad to admit, that we did sell a few to our customers before concluding that they
caused more problems than they were worth. Since the basic concept has not changed
in 20 years and we have seen several installed by others during that period, our opinion
has not yet changed. Please read here for another opinion.
. Our favorite approach to water heating is a method of using 2 water heaters piped
together. We heat the first one for free with waste heat from your air conditioner, or with
high COP heat from your HEAT PUMP or GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM. We then send this
water that is often heated all the way to 130 degrees for free into a conventional tank for
finishing and more storage.
. Our experience is that this method attains the objectives of "never running out of hot
water", and "lowering utility costs" much more reliably than the tankless water heater
